can do both. i think romney is doing both and romney -- watching him right now is watching him go through the different phases of romney, 509s shades of romney shall we say. >> that's exactly what they have thought. so people have talked about this a lot. the notion of they were kind of a fork in the road in the spring. do we want to run against him as a flip flopping phony or run against -- coreless, their pitch before, or do we want to cast him as a right wing radical. they seemed to and did make a decision to do right wing radical and one on throughout. i talked about david plouffe about this in may and he said we're going do both when we have to. we're going to say mitt romney there he goes trying to flip flop, coreless a phony, but not forget where he actually is, and then this is -- we're going to keep trying to pin him back to these positions he's taken. i think they have been horrible since the debate, the obama campaign. they are -- jon ward understates the degree to which they are knocked off guard and they are flailing right now and the stuff they're saying, the big bir
it will be an issue between the vice president biden and romney's running mate, paul rea has been closed off for a thousand folks for a stop at bun's restaurant. they were in points near mount veteran on, both governor romney and governor chris christie. >> get the government get out of the way and you succeed. >>carl: you not likely to hear romney use words like "hell," but chris christie got it out in the first couple of seconds. romney will campaign in ohio today but the big event is the presidential debate tomorrow and more and more polls show romney has regained the lead. the momentum is here, and there is increasing anxiety among the democrats over worry that the president could be losing. with to new momentum, mitt romney is going back to the economy, pushing hard on jobs and the idea that the obama record ask not deserve re-election as he has been saying now since the convention, saying the country cannot afor another four more years of this. >>shepard: thank you, carl cameron coming from delaware, ohio. >>shepard: this is on the east of the first and only scheduled vice presidential
and mitt romney both have a play list that, again, i think it is trying to give them the character or persona. mitt romney has johnny cash on his. obama has arcade fire. all these, like -- i was listening to them this morning and just sort of -- you read so much into it, what do they mean by that lyric? what are they trying to say? >> why are they choosing -- arcade fire. who exactly mentioned they must have a group in charge of social media, which would be a pretty awesome job if you're a youngster out of college, right, and tweeting on behalf of the president or mitt romney. is that who it is? >> yeah. mostly it is not the candidates posting. >> it is not? >> shocker. so there are people employed to do this. i think this came out of the 2008 campaign, you know, president obama had a lot of success reaching out particularly to young voters on text messages and social networks. you mentioned that was more twitter and facebook then and now spreading into these other networks too like tumbler or spotify. >> how successful, ultimately, as you mention that young voting bloc that is so

in the debate with mitt romney, they're both willing to say and do anything to become president and vice president. and they're a little fast and loose with the facts. that's a lesson we've learned. we've been holding their feet to the fire over the last ten days. and we're going to continue to do that. the president included. >> the president says he was a little too polite last time. maybe he'll be less polite this time. here's another little exchange that the vice president had with paul ryan. i'm going to play some of these clips. >> 7.4 million seniors are projected to lose the current medicare advantage coverage they have, that's a $3,200 benefit cut -- >> more people -- >> these are from your own actuaries. >> more people signed up for medicare advantage after the change. >> it's a plan i put together with a prominent democratic senator from oregon -- >> there's not one democrat that endorses it. not one democrat who signed the plan -- >> mr. vice president i know you're under a lot of duress to make up for lost ground, but i think we would be better serv
governor romney is going to win ohio this year. host: both of them have been there numerous times to the president just 15 times this year, 30 times since he has taken office. tell me about ohio. caller: ohio is a class a purple state, well balanced between democrats and republicans, a microcosm of the country in the sense that you have blue caller workers, you have -- however, the state is older, probably more caucasian, a little white r. it has really been hit by the economic downturn, especially heavy industry. both sides think they have a real shot at winning the state. i think in the early going, the obama campaign scored well on their class warfare argument. that is one of the staples of the obama campaign, "you are not doing well because this guy in his career is doing too well." now i think the public is beginning to understand that it is the bad economic policies of this administration that is causing everybody to do less well than they should. so i think now mitt romney and paul ryan are starting to pick up. host: what kind of ground game do you need to pick up ohio? gue
is where both the president and mitt romney are. and on one hand, the president's going to hang out in columbus because he's trying to one up the score. that's a good democratic county. but cincinnati, it's a swing county, right down here. it's one that president bush carried by 23,000 votes. the president carried it by 21,000 votes. it's going to tell you a lot about what's happening in ohio by where that goes. and then moving on into virginia, it won't come as a surprise to folks that the big swing county is in the northern virginia area, since that's where all the growth has been. and i'm sure folks are wondering, is it -- well, let me move here. technology stalls a little bit. is it a loudon, a fairfax, a prince william? well, according to our numbers, it's prince william, and the county seat of prince william, that's manassas. the joke about virginia is when you drive on i-66 in virginia, the welcome center when you've entered the state of virginia, you have to drive 30 miles to prince william county in manassas, and that's when you get the "welcome to virginia." but actually,
liberal both the way he governed since the 2010 midterms and in his campaigning. and i think the romney campaign and rnc have an ad out right now calling president obama a liberal. identifying him as such for voters which makes voters jobs a little bit easier. this is opening for romney campaign to continue to make that point and tie his policies with that idealogical label. martha: steve, they will be both out in force in ohio over the course of this week. rob portman will be campaigning with mitt romney as will chris christie. talk to me about the tightening in ohio. >> ohio, it is, isn't too much to say ohio is crucial obviously. if you look at the polls i think there was a sense both in public polling and internal polling for the campaigns that ohio was slipping away from republicans in a state that they need to win. now seems there is some tightening. there was a poll out in michigan last night shows president obama only up three points there. if president obama is only up three points in michigan and that's a good poll, it's likely that ohio is back to a dead-heat which insures th
half of those likely voters surveyed think president obama is more moderate th mitt romney. i think by any objective measure that is simply not true. if you look the way president obama has governed both before the 2010 midterms and particularly after the 2010 midterms when he did nothing to moderate his positions. he did not do a bill clinton style shift toe the center where he tried to triangulate. he has been proud, rather aggressive liberal both the way he governed since the 2010 midterms and in his campaigning. and i think the romney campaign and rnc have an ad out right now calling president obama a liberal. identifying him as such for voters which makes voters jobs a little bit easier. this is opening for romney campaign to continue to make that point and tie his policies with that idealogical label. martha: steve, they will be both out in force in ohio over the course of this week. rob portman will be campaigning with mitt romney as will chris christie. talk to me about the tightening in ohio. >> ohio, it is, isn't too much to say ohio is crucial obviously. if you look at th
matters of romney's faith, they will win this election. >> and they talk about freedom every day, but they don't want to continue with the separation of church and state. maria teresa kumar and julian epstein, thank you both, and we'll be right back. now with a fancy coating that gives you a burst of wildberry flavor. now why make a flavored heartburn pill? because this is america. and we don't just make things you want, we make things you didn't even know you wanted. like a spoon fork. spray cheese. and jeans made out of sweatpants. so grab yourself some new prilosec otc wildberry.
